Welcome to the Hanover Dragoons SCV Camp # 827 home page. “Dragoons” is the correct term we use not “Dragons”. (A Dragoon is a cavalryman or a soldier on horseback). Our camp is named after the original Hanover Dragoons unit that served under Brig. General Williams C. Wickham during the War.

We are one of several SCV camps serving Hanover County, VA. We meet on the third Wednesday of every month usually at a local restaurant. However, there are times we will choose to meet elsewhere depending on current local events. Our typical meeting timeline consists of:
Social time beginning at 6:00pm.
Dinner will then take place from 6:30pm until 7:15-7:30pm and is “Buy your Own”.
Guest speakers and our business meeting to follow.
Our camp was chartered in 2002 and we are an active camp. We have participated in monument and headstone dedications, reenactments, heritage events, and parades to educate others on the full history of the War period. We also perform the service work of cleaning headstones in local cemeteries as well as general maintenance of the Yellow Tavern historic site (where Major General J.E.B. Stuart was mortally wounded). We work with monument preservation and heritage defense groups.
The SCV logo above contains the Confederate Battle Flag which to us is a symbol of great strength, honor, and valor to our members since it was the main flag their ancestors fought under. It is NOT a symbol of hate as others claim and the SCV deplores those who misuse it for that reason.
Every member of our camp is expected to be of good character and a good citizen. We love Hanover County and the Commonwealth of Virginia. It is our home, and our purpose is to preserve the history and legacy of its Confederate soldiers. A number of names listed on the Hanover Confederate Monument came from our research.
We participate in the local community. Our camp is a member of the Hanover Chamber of Commerce, and we support the Hanover Historical Society.
We look forward to meeting everyone who shares our values.
Thank you for your interest in our camp.
